How to Remove Candle Wax From Carpet

In this post, I’ll show you EXACTLY how to remove candle wax spills from carpet.
​
This method is commonly used by professional carpet cleaners and it can be used to remove big, small, fresh, old, dried, or colored wax spills from carpet.
​
The basic principal is to place a thick piece of paper on top of the wax spot, then cover the paper with a clothing iron. The heat from the iron will melt the wax and transfer it from the carpet to the paper.

CAUTION: Before you begin, make sure your iron is set to a low or synthetic material heat setting. These lower heat settings are more than enough to melt paraffin wax.

Most carpets are made out of synthetic materials (plastics like nylon and polyester). An irons hottest heat setting can easily melt these synthetic materials.
​

I recommend using paper from brown paper grocery bags. This paper type works well because it is thick, absorptive, and durable.
Cut out approximately 15 long and narrow paper strips. The width of the paper strips should be about as wide as the wax spot. These paper strips will be used to absorb the melted wax from the carpet. ​

Remove Candle Wax From Carpet (Step-By-Step Guide)
Step 1 - Pre-heat a clothing iron to a low or synthetic material heat setting, with the steam function off. Cut approximately 15 long narrow paper strips.

Step 2 - Place the end of a paper strip on top of the wax spot, then place the iron on top of the paper. A damp cloth can be used to protect the surrounding carpet from the heat of the iron (optional).
​
Step 3 - Slowly pull the paper strip out from under the iron, keeping the iron in place directly above the wax spot. As the paper passes between the wax spot and the iron, the paper will absorb the melted wax. Keep repeating this step until the paper strips stop absorbing wax.

Step 4 - After about 10 repetitions most of the wax will have come out of the carpet.

Step 5 - Use the tip of the iron to apply slightly more pressure to the paper. The added pressure will help squeeze even more wax out of the carpet. Keep repeating this step until the paper stops absorbing wax from the carpet.
Step 6 - Groom the tufts into a valley to see if there is any wax remaining at the base of the tufts. With the carpet tufts groomed apart, use the last strips and the tip of the iron to absorb the final drops of wax from the carpet.
